Watching someone build is not the same as building.
Online courses and THB programs both aim to help people develop skills and make progress. The mechanism is completely different. An online course delivers instruction — you watch, you learn, you (maybe) complete exercises. A THB program delivers environment — you're surrounded by other builders, you have a deadline, and the output is something you made, not something you watched.
| Criterion | The Hub Bengaluru | Online Course |
|---|---|---|
| Learning format | Build-first — apply everything to a real project | Watch / read / complete exercises |
| Accountability | High — cohort, mentors, Demo Day | Low — you vs. the completion bar |
| Completion rates | High — social accountability drives completion | Under 10% for most self-paced courses |
| Output | Something you built | Certificate / knowledge |
| Community | Real, in-person, curated | Forum or Discord (often inactive) |
| Physical presence | Yes — Bengaluru | No — fully remote |
| Mentorship | Active facilitation by experienced builders | Rarely; usually pre-recorded |
| Cost | ₹999 (Night School) to ₹1,83,039 (full residency) | Free to ₹50,000+ for premium programs |
| Best for | Builders who want accountability and real output | People who want to learn at their own pace |
Online courses are good for learning things. THB programs are good for building things. If the goal is to have made something real by the end, THB is more likely to produce that outcome. If the goal is to understand a topic better, a good course is probably more efficient.
Summer Camp is an in-person, 5-day build program where you work on a real problem and present on Demo Day. It is not a curriculum — everything you learn is applied to your specific project in real time, with mentor support and peer accountability. An online course delivers instruction; Summer Camp delivers output.
Self-paced courses have no external accountability — no cohort, no deadline, no social consequence for stopping. THB programs have all three. The social cost of not shipping when your cohort ships is the most effective productivity mechanism that exists.
Summer Camp, Night School, or the 111-Day Residency — there's an entry point for where you are right now.
